Why Your Emotions Affect Your Motivation

Sam Crowley

Key issues are addressed in this article: How to get motivated when you feel so low that you can't get out of bed? Try to feel grateful for what you do have. I'm trying to remind myself to be grateful for the day ahead of me before I get out of bed. I recently saw a TV show about hurricane Katrina survivors. The struggles and traumatization they went through really showed me just how grateful I should be for what I have. Another side effect of feeling grateful is happiness. As you recognize what you have and appreiciate it you start to fell happy with you're life as it is and then you can find the energy to achieve your goals.

If you are struggling with your motivation you are certainly not alone. Most people say that they would love to do various things but they simply just do not have the motivation to do them. This causes them to live an unsatisfying and unfulfilling life and that to them is unacceptable.

However if it is unacceptable why do these people choose to stay in that way of life? Why do they not change and make things better for themselves? Surely it makes sense to get out of a situation that you are not happy in and surely the motivation would come from that? Well it might make sense, but the problem is that unfortunately motivation is often tied to our emotions. It can be a continuous cycle where you lack motivation so you start to feel unhappy with your life. That unhappiness causes you to lose even more motivation and before you know it you have none left whatsoever. So if you want to increase your motivation, you have to increase your own happiness.

Emotions and Motivation

Let's face it; when you feel like the world is against you and you would rather stay in bed and wallow, rather than go out there and face the world again; your motivation is not going to be at an all time high! The lack of motivation then causes you to stay in that little world of self pity for as long as you feel down and depressed.

Our motivation relies very much upon just how happy we truly are. If you feel lousy about yourself, you will not have much motivation to change things because you will not feel worthy of the change. So how can you possibly find the motivation to change when you really do not want to? The fact is that you can't.

If you truly want to change the way that you live your life, it means that you need to find peace within your inner self. You need to like who you are and you need to know that you are good enough to change. Whatever it is that you want to change; you will not do it if you do not truly want to do it. So make a list of the things that you want, the things that you really want and then imagine how you would feel if you could have everything on that list. Start to think about the possibilities of achieving the goals on the list and find ways in which they can be achieved. That way it will help you to gain more motivation.

Instead of telling yourself that you cannot do something, tell yourself that you can. No matter what doubts are there push them aside and tell yourself you can achieve anything that you want to. The mind is a powerful weapon and it can help you to achieve anything if you let it. You just need to know what you want and how badly you want it.

Every person has the chance to change their own life and you can only do that if you are focused and if you pick yourself up and take care of yourself. It is only once you are strong that you will find the motivation to get through anything. So the next time that you feel like wallowing in self pity, remind yourself that you can choose to get out of this situation you are in. By making yourself stronger emotionally, you will allow yourself to gain more motivation and that will help you to achieve your goals.
